Unknown Quantities
We were invited to design the annual art journal Unknown Quantities published by Central Saint Martins. To visualise the concept of the Abject, the design aims to challenge the conventional academic journal. The Abject carries idiosyncrasies that encompass contradictions i.e. traits of fragility, instability and desire. As a design team, we took this on as a great opportunity to reflect this notion. As soon as the Journal is opened the user is made to transgress the boundaries of their perceptions of a standard Journal. Typoglycemia, a word that appears at first glance as a typographical error, yet still retains to be read correctly, is used to highlight certain re-occurring words that allude to the traits of the Abject.
